Marriage Certificate Attestation in Dubai
The correct attestation route depends on where the marriage certificate was issued and where you need to use it. A foreign-issued certificate for use in the UAE usually follows the issuing-country authentication → UAE mission → UAE MOFA route. A UAE-issued certificate for use abroad normally starts with the relevant UAE-side authentication and MOFA, then follows the destination country’s requirements. We check the route before the original document moves.
| Certificate / purpose | What to check |
|---|---|
| Foreign marriage certificate for UAE family sponsorship | Issuing-country authentication, UAE mission and UAE MOFA; immigration may also require translation or other supporting documents. |
| UAE marriage certificate for use abroad | Relevant UAE issuing-authority requirement → UAE MOFA → destination-country or mission requirements. Eligible digital documents may use MOFA Digital Attestation. |
| Marriage certificate for court, banking or property use | Do not assume attestation is universally required. Confirm the receiving authority’s specific document, language and certification requirement. |
Family sponsorship in Dubai
GDRFA Dubai currently lists a certified marriage contract among the requirements for family-sponsorship entry/residence services. The exact immigration file can also require passports, salary/employment evidence, housing documents and other items depending on the case. Attesting the marriage certificate is therefore one part of the immigration file, not the whole application.
MOFA accepts more than one document format
The old “physical original only” rule is too broad. MOFA currently supports original physical documents, eligible original digital documents and documents with QR or verification features, depending on the route. Laminated documents are rejected in the physical-document route.
Before we submit
- Country where the marriage certificate was issued
- Country or authority where you will use it
- Current stamps, QR code or verification features already on the certificate
- Whether an official Arabic/English translation or another destination-language translation is required
1. Route check
We identify whether the certificate is entering or leaving the UAE and which authority is next.
2. Complete the required authentication
We prepare the file for the applicable issuing-country, UAE mission or MOFA step without skipping required prior authentication.
3. Check the receiving authority
For immigration, court, banking, property or overseas use, we confirm whether translation or another certification step is still required.
Attestation does not make every marriage certificate acceptable for every purpose
Attestation authenticates signatures and seals. A receiving authority can still require a specific format, recent civil-status extract, Arabic translation, supporting identity documents or another country-specific formality.
If the certificate also needs a destination-country consular step, see Embassy & Consular Attestation. For the UAE Ministry step itself, see MOFA Attestation Dubai.

GDRFA Dubai currently lists a certified marriage contract among the family-sponsorship requirements. The full immigration file has other requirements too, so attestation is one part of the application.
MOFA’s current guidance requires the applicable authentication in the issuing country, then the UAE Embassy/Consulate serving that country, then UAE MOFA. Some UAE missions now offer integrated digital workflows, so confirm the mission-specific route.
No. MOFA now supports eligible original digital documents and documents with QR or verification features in certain routes, while physical originals remain required in others. The system determines the route.
Do not treat that as a universal MOFA rule. The attestation route is document-based and the official system determines requirements; immigration, embassy or service-provider files may separately request identity documents.
No. Those authorities can have transaction-specific requirements, including document format, translation, recency or supporting evidence. Attestation should not be advertised as universally mandatory or universally sufficient for all of them.
It depends on the receiving authority. MOFA requires documents in Arabic or English or an official translation. Immigration or court use can have additional Arabic-language requirements, so confirm the intended use first.
Potentially, if the document is an eligible original digital document from a supported UAE authority and contains a verification mechanism. MOFA’s application determines eligibility.
Send a clear image or digital copy of the certificate, the country of issue, and where you will use it. We can then identify whether MOFA, a UAE mission, a destination-country embassy or translation is the next step.
