How to Cancel a Power of Attorney in Dubai | E-Notary Dubai

Step-by-step guide to revoking or cancelling a POA in Dubai. What happens to the agent and how to notify third parties.

· Updated Jan 2026

Can You Cancel a POA in Dubai?

Yes. Under UAE law, the principal has the right to revoke a Power of Attorney at any time, as long as they are mentally competent. The revocation takes effect from the moment it is formally notarized — not from when the agent is notified.

Step 1 — Appear Before a Notary Public

To formally cancel a POA in Dubai, the principal (the person who originally granted the authority) must appear before a UAE-licensed Notary Public and sign a Revocation of Power of Attorney document. This is notarized and registered in the same system as the original POA.

Step 2 — Notify the Agent and Relevant Third Parties

After notarization, you should formally notify the agent in writing that their authority has been revoked. You should also notify any bank, authority, or institution where the agent had authority — otherwise the agent could continue acting before those institutions until they are made aware of the revocation.

What Happens if the Agent Continues to Act After Revocation?

Any act by the agent after the revocation has been notarized is invalid. However, if a third party (e.g., a bank) was not notified and acted in good faith based on the original POA, the transaction may still be considered valid. This is why notification to third parties is essential.

Can I Cancel a POA If I Am Outside the UAE?

Yes. You can execute a Revocation of POA at a UAE embassy in your country, get it MOFA-attested, and submit it to Dubai Courts. Alternatively, you can use our video call notarization service to complete the revocation remotely.
